About Me

Asian Counsellor in UK

Face to face in Bristol & Online all over UK

Welcome to Kav Counselling,

I’m Kavitha Joshy, though most people call me Kav. I am a qualified integrative counsellor based in Bristol, offering therapy for adults across the UK. My approach is warm, confidential and non-judgmental where you can feel heard, supported, and explore your emotions safely at your own pace . If you are feeling overwhelmed, anxious, low, or simply unsure where to turn, I am here to support you at your pace. I offer short term and long term therapy and work with adults from all the backgrounds, with particular experience in providing culturally aware counselling for Asian and ethnically diverse communities. I offer therapy in English and Malayalam. You are welcome to get in touch by using the Contact Me form on this website or by sending a message to my mobile on 07424308312 or by emailing kavcounselling@outlook.com. I will be happy to hear from you.

As a British Asian woman with lived experience of navigating multiple cultural identities and family expectations, I understand the challenges of balancing cultural identity, family expectations and your emotional needs. Many people grow up in environments where high expectations are placed on you and you are made to feel not good enough. Emotions aren’t openly discussed and seeking mental health support carries stigma. Reaching out for counselling can feel daunting and I deeply respect your courage to take the first step. I believe our experiences, relationships, childhood and heritage shapes who we are and I work with each person with genuine, care , curiosity and respect.

My path into this work began with my own experience of therapy, which was life‑changing. It helped me understand myself more deeply and gave me the clarity and confidence I needed to move forward. This experience inspired me to train as a counsellor so I could offer others the same opportunity for growth and healing. I’ve worked several years with the mental health charity MIND, supporting people through a wide range of emotional challenges. This experience strengthened my passion for helping others feel seen, heard, and supported.

At Kav Counselling, I provide professional, culturally informed counselling in a safe, confidential, and supportive environment where you feel respected, heard, and empowered. My experience navigating multiple cultural identities and life within a mixed-race family has shaped a strong understanding of family dynamics, social expectations, and the emotional impact these experiences can have on mental wellbeing. I recognise the barriers and stigma surrounding mental health within many communities and I am committed to creating an inclusive therapeutic space that promotes trust, psychological safety, and personal growth. I offer counselling in both English and Malayalam and welcome clients from all backgrounds. Whether you are experiencing anxiety, grief, cultural pressures, or periods of uncertainty, I will work alongside you with empathy, professionalism, and care to help you build resilience, clarity, and confidence at a pace that feels right for you.

I am able to offer short term and long term therapy online by zoom and in person at Practice Rooms in Westbury On Trym. How Counselling Can Help

Counselling can be a powerful step toward healing and growth. It offers a space to explore your thoughts and emotions without fear of judgment—helping you understand why you feel the way you do and what might be holding you back. Rather than bottling things up, counselling gives you the opportunity to reflect, process, and begin to move forward at your own pace.

Empathy, Respect & Care

Whether you're feeling grief, anger, sadness, guilt, or simply overwhelmed, therapy can help you make sense of those feelings and begin to feel more grounded. It can strengthen your relationships, support your personal development, and build emotional resilience, confidence, and wellbeing. Above all, it’s a space where you can be yourself—and be met with empathy, respect, and care.
